WIP: Italeri Ferrari 288 GTO

Yet another one that wasn't documented properly so just a series of shots at different stages.
This is the Italeri kit but this was also recently re-boxed by Revell. It was also re-boxed by Tester's in the US but both that and the Italeri kit are now harder to find and not really worth seeking out since the Revell re-issue.

This is possible my favourite "modern" car ever.
The 993 Turbo comes close but if I could only have one car for the rest of my life, this wouldn't be a bad one to have...

Just as that first one I saw and fell in love with, I did this with the dual-tone interior. The car comes with what are commonly called "Daytona" seats that has these striped sections on it that make it perfect for having highlight colours in the otherwise all black interior. Dash-top was painted matt back to emulate the suede cover that the real car has.

This is one of only two kits made of this car and whereas the Fujimi kit is famous for it's tiny little accurate parts, this one is a little larger scaled; incorrect but easier to build and detail.

Body was straight forward Tamiya Italian Red.

And that's it.
From here, it was just small details then a very easy assembly.

WIP: Airfix Porsche 928 S4: Part 4

Bodywork.

First of all, a little reminder of the body in primer.

Super shiny smooth.
This meant that the first layer of paint was equally smooth. No texture on the primer = no texture on the top coat.

Nice, no?
But that's not good enough.
That's only one layer of paint and it isn't going to be enough to hold up to any sort of polishing. So a couple of more coats were applied. Inevitably a few spots appeared here and there that needed to be taken care of.

So the whole body got the  high grit sanding treatment.

The second shot is there to show the difference between sanding grades.
The left side is 2000 and the right is 4000.
I managed to go through to primer on one of the door trims so that needed to be masked and resprayed.

After a bit of elbow grease.

Like a mirror.
A few bits of body detailing and it was mounted onto the chassis.
Done.
